Abstract
This study examines the level of awareness and practice among coastal communities in Kampung Ujung Labuang regarding support for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) programme through community-based environmental management. A total of 83 respondents with diverse backgrounds participated and their responses were analyzed using questionnaires covering four main aspects: education, skills, regulations and policies and economics and welfare. The results show that most respondents have a good understanding of the educational aspect, although some groups still require further development. In terms of skills, most respondents have mastered waste management practices, particularly through Ecobrick training, though variations remain. A sufficient understanding of regulations is evident, but policy implementation still faces gaps at the village level. Meanwhile, the economic aspect suggests potential to improve welfare through the use of plastic waste, although the distribution of benefits is uneven. Seminars and training activities have proven effective in strengthening the community’s awareness, skills and collective commitment. Overall, this study confirms that an integrative approach, combining education, skills, regulation and economics, can be an effective model for sustainable coastal environmental management, supporting the achievement of the SDGs at the local level. It is recommended that similar programmes be replicated in other coastal villages by strengthening collaboration among the government, academia and the community to expand their impact.
