Effect of Nitrogen Sources on Cellulase Production under Agricultural Waste Biomass based Solid State Fermentation and Future Recommendation

Abstract

The bioconversion of waste to useable energy is also a part of utilization of waste biomass. Thus the possibility of producing a useful product from waste will greatly enhance and ensure sustainable economic development worldwide. Utilizing waste in the production of useful goods can help alleviate waste management issues. It is well known that lignocellulosic biomass, particularly agricultural waste, is an excellent source of carbon for production of microbial enzymes. Our society has placed a strong emphasis on the efficient treatment and utilization of biowaste due to concerns about the economy and the environment. The biochemical synthesis of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids in microbial cells is influenced by the nitrogen source. Type of nitrogen sources is another key affecting cell growth and product formation. Good nitrogen sources must be rich in readily used nitrogen and easily soluble nitrogenous organic compounds. In present investigation various nitrogen sources, such as peptones, meat extract, beef extract, yeast extract and Bakers yeast have been used by microbial strains for cellulase production under wheat bran and bagasse based fermentation. It also discusses the applicability of cost-effective nitrogen sources in product formation as future suggestions.
