Abstract

In developing nations, non-renewable energy sources are frequently used, which has an adverse impact on the environment and is more expensive. Renewable energy sources have been increasingly important in recent years in the pursuit of clean, affordable and sustainable energy that reduces secondary waste-related environmental degradation. The main objective of this study was to geospatial locations for the solar power plant have been mapped over the Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh using geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) with analytical hierarchal process (AHP). Based on the environmental, socio-economic and climatic parameters, eight important factors such as solar radiation, land surface temperature (LST), distance to road, slope, aspect, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), distance to the water body and distance from a power line were selected to identify the suitable sites for solar power plant. Furthermore, a pairwise comparison matrix was constructed to estimate the weight for each criterion. The consistency ratio of this study was 0.07. Therefore, the outcome of this study has been classified into five categories, such as unsuitable (9.41%), marginally suitable (13.82%), moderately suitable (23.54%), highly suitable (38.21%) and most suitable (17.75%). Area under curve of the outcome has been achieved upto 76.6%.
